THE leaders of both the Welsh Conservative Party and UKIP will both be in Gwent today, to rally support ahead of the Assembly elections.

Welsh Conservatives leader Andrew RT Davies, who is taking part in a 36 hour tour of Wales, will be paying a visit to constituents in Newport and Monmouth. Stops along the tour include getting behind the counter at a fishmongers, helping out on the school run, and pouring a pint in a local village pub.

The Welsh Conservative leader will highlight a series of manifesto commitments throughout the day: including trebling free childcare provision, protecting the health budget, and providing security and dignity in old age with a cap on care costs.

Speaking ahead of the tour, Mr Davies said: “I have a simple message for voters: Wales is in desperate need of a change and communities are crying out for a new approach."

UKIP leader Nigel Farage will also be in Newport today campaigning to gain support for his party ahead of Thursday's elections. He will be attending a public meeting at the Neon Theatre on Clarence Place in Newport at 7pm.
