WE KNOW that not everyone is a fan of the Velothon and that many people see it as a massive inconvenience because of the lengthy road closures.

But the positive feedback about yesterday’s event seemed to far outweigh the negative.

This illustrates perhaps that the organisation of this year’s event was an improvement on last year’s, Velothon which left many people furious.

Communication about road closures ahead of the event does appears to have been better this year.

That is not to say there weren’t some problems, yesterday with some people reporting being effectively they were stuck in their homes for hours and even one incident in which a car managed to drive along what was supposed to be a closed road.

But, overall there does seem to have been a lot of support for the event.

the mere fact that it can attract 12,000 competitors people to take part to turn out on a wet Sunday to take part, and attract thousands of supporters, means it must have something going for it.

Many of those taking part were doing so to raise money for charities which is also a good reason for people to embrace the event.

The onus is on the organisers to minimise any disruption and our message to them is to listen to the very real concerns being raised by residents living along the route this year to make sure they can be ironed out before Velothon 2017.
