A FUNDRAISING drive has been launched to raise £2,000 so a car-mad nine-year-old from Pontypool can take part in a European rally in a gleaming super car.

Last year, Jack Pittas, of Canal Court, Griffithstown, and his dad, Rob ,were offered a place in June’s eight-day Eight Ball Rally after sponsors agreed to cover their expenses.

But his dream trip was put in jeopardy after the sponsors pulled out.

Undeterred, Mr Pittas has now launched a campaign to cover the cost of petrol so he and his son, who has Asperger’s Syndrome and loves cars, can take part in the eight-day event, which sets off from London on Saturday June 18.

The organisers of the event have covered the cost of entry and director Aston Wood has also agreed to lend Jack and his dad a brand new Lamborghini Aventador roadster Superveloce, one of the nine-year-old’s favourite cars, to take part in the 3,000 event in.

Mr Pittas said: “It’s a one-off bespoke model.

“It’s being made especially for him (Mr Wood) – there won’t be another one like it in the world.

“He’s only going to have it for a few days and, if we raise the money, he’s going to put it straight on a lorry and send it down here.

“Lamborghini have given us 10 day’s insurance as well. The only problem is it’s going to cost £2,000 for fuel.

“We’re just calling for help because without this money we won’t be able to go.”

Mr Pittas added if the event was successful he was hoping to set up a foundation so other young car enthusiasts like Jack could enjoy similar trips.

He also said anyone who sponsored Jack would benefit from promotion on the car itself, on their website and at car events throughout the country he visits.
