TREDEGAR House got into the bank holiday spirit with a 1930s garden party to celebrate one of its most notorious eras.

Hundreds of visitors got dressed up to enjoy a whole host of 1930s fun on Saturday and more are expected to take part across the bank holiday weekend.

Families were able to take part in a spot of croquet on the seventeenth century lawns, demonstrate their competitive edge in a sack race, get creative with the arts and crafts dressing up station or join in the fun with a spotter trail throughout the mansion house.

There was plenty of glitz and glamour in the formal gardens with the Usk Valley Jazz Band putting on performances in the Orangery today and pianist Sue Scott will be entertaining visitors as they step into the National Trust managed house tomorrow.

Anwen Roberts, senior visitor experience officer, said: “It’s been a fantastic weekend so far on one of our relatively new pieces of programming here at Tredegar House. On Saturday we have had 520 join us in our celebrations of the Morgan family’s most infamous party era which considering the relatively poor weather has been amazing.

“We hope that things will get even better tomorrow and on Monday with the sun finally giving a proper appearance to help us create that lovely lazy summer garden party feel.”

The Tredegar House 1930s Garden Party continues tomorow and Monday between 11am and 4pm with more music, dancing and dressing up.
