A WOMAN was caught committing bigamy when her husband found pictures of her wedding to another man online, a court has heard.

Lisa Everard, aged 35, of Channel View, Bulwark, Chepstow appeared at Cardiff Crown Court charged with one count of bigamy having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.

The court heard she was married to Elliott Everard with whom she had two children; a two-year-old and three-year-old.

But Mr Everard came across pictures on Facebook of his wife at her wedding on July 6, of this year, to Michael Hughes.

Mark Battrick, prosecuting, said Mr Everard asked his wife about the pictures but she claimed they were photos of when she was a bridesmaid at a wedding.

Mr Battrick said Mr Everard then spoke to the registry office to obtain a copy of his wife's marriage certificate to another man.

In his victim impact statement Mr Everard said he was "devastated" when he found out his wife had married another man. He said Mr Everard felt his "world had turned upside down" and he "felt numb".

The court heard Mr Everard as a result of his wife's actions had lost over a stone in weight.

Peter Donnison, defending, said Everard had no previous convictions and said her new husband Mr Hughes is sticking by her.

He told the court Everard said she left the relationship with her husband Mr Everard "some years prior to her re-marrying".

Judge P Harris-Jenkins sentenced Everard to two months imprisonment which he suspended for 12 months.

He said: "This was not as it was hinted by you, an act of naivety, in your pre-sentence report. This was a deception."

The judge said the impact on Mr Everard was not just emotional but financial as he was providing for their two children by himself.

"You should have borne all of that in mind before you acted in the selfish way that you did," the judge added.

The judge said in his judgement in these circumstances it would not be in the public interest to impose an immediate custodial sentence.

He told the court Everard had suffered with post-natal depression following the birth of her youngest child.

He also made her the subject of a rehabilitation requirement and she has to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.
