IT IS a message which is reiterated every year but it is one which is worth repeating.

And that is the simple one around don’t drink and drive.

All four police forces in Wales, led by South Wales Police, have launched this year’s month-long Christmas campaign.

It is a high profile event meant to get across what is a straightforward message to anyone who even considers getting behind the wheel of a car while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

We are happy to help get that message across.

We have all read reports of the devastating and tragic consequences which can result from people drinking and driving.

And it is fair to say that the vast majority of people do not need reminding.

But there are always those who seem to think that they are above such rules.

At the end of the day this campaign is about saving lives. Nobody wants to be a killjoy and Christmas is a time for meeting up with old friends and family and enjoying nights out.

But all drivers and their passengers have a responsibility to make sure unnecessary risks are not taken.

The alternative does not bear thinking about.
