A Welsh Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at shortly before 2.15pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the A40 in Monmouth.
"We sent a rapid response vehicle and three emergency ambulances to the scene and a number of patients have been taken to Nevill Hall Hospital."

A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "Officers are currently dealing with a three vehicle RTC on the A40 in Monmouth towards Ross on Wye.
"Motorists travelling north bound towards the Gibraltar tunnels are being asked to expect delays while recovery work takes place.
"There were no life threatening injuries."
