A BARBER from Pontypool could be crowned as one of most skilled wet shave artists in the UK when he takes part in a competition next year.

Jac Ludlow, who runs Bojangles British Barber Club in Griffithstown, recently made the regional final of ‘Britain’s Best Shave’ .

If he secures the top spot in the regional heat, Mr Ludlow will perform the most crucial shave of his life at the national final at the Birmingham NEC on May 21, 2017.

Finalists must impress judges on a number of criteria, ranging from shave preparation and razor technique to health and safety.

Speaking about his craft, Mr Ludlow said: “Barbering is an art and wet shaving is one of the most skilled sectors.

“I’m inspired by all aspects of barbering. I love the fact that I can give someone an experience and allow them to feel completely cleansed.”

The competition is organised by male grooming brand Bluebeards Revenge and industry watchdogs the British Barbers Association.

Managing director of Bluebeards Revenge David Hildrew said the practice is enjoying a “renaissance” with a 60 per cent of UK barbers now performing the service.
