POLICE are inviting residents to gain first hand experience of their front line work by "riding along" with officers.

The Ride Along Scheme, hosted by Gwent Police, aims to provide insight into how officers work across a number of areas.

This can range from responding to calls and patrolling areas on the beat to the force communication suite, which allocates calls from members of the public.

Applicants must meet certain terms and conditions before taking part.

These include being a resident in the Gwent Police area, providing a reason why they wish to be considered and criminal record checks.

Those with a criminal record will be considered on a case by case basis.

Applicants must also be 18 years or above but people of 16 and above may take part under certain circumstances.

Gwent Police also reserves the right to refuse participation in this scheme and to terminate the ride along at any point.
