CROWDS of rail enthusiasts turned out for the “largest” Monmouth Model Railway Exhibition earlier this month.

Around 600 people attended the annual Monmouth Rotary Club fundraising event, which is now in its sixth year.

The show at the town’s leisure centre attracted nearly 40 exhibitors, with displays ranging from the small Z scale trains up to the large Wye Valley Steam Displays.

People of all ages enjoyed several model railway demonstrations and retail stalls, which included Hereford Model Railway Shop and Elite Baseboards among others.

More than £2,000 was raised on the day, with all funds going towards the many charities that the Rotary Club supports.

“It’s been fantastic, it’s the largest event that we’ve held in six years,” said organiser David Forbes.

“It just goes to show how popular model train sets are for younger people all the way up to the older rail enthusiasts.

“There’s also a keen interest for exhibitors to check out what fellow exhibitors have been working on.”
