Our reporter Estel Farell-Roig has been at the scene of the incident.

She said there was heavy police presence - there were four police cars in attendance - including Collision Investigation Unit -, one police van and one police motorbike.

Chepstow Road, which has now re-opened, was closed on both directions between Speke Street and London Street.

The police cordon was in place until 10.30pm.

A PERSON has been taken to hospital following an accident in Chepstow Road, Newport.

Chepstow Road remains closed between Hereford Street and Maindee Square due to the accident, but traffic is understood to be coping well. 

An ambulance service spokeswoman said that they attended to the call at 7.40pm.

She said that a person had been knocked down and that the person has been conveyed to the Royal Gwent Hospital.
