IT WAS last month that we reported on the problems of rubbish being left at a site which had been used by a travelling family.

A lot of people were immediately very critical of the travellers blaming them for the mess.

And at the time that did seem to be the case.

But now it is apparent that other people are making a special journey in order to dump rubbish at the Welsh Government-owned site on Tatton Road, Newport.

How low can you go?

Witnesses say people are arriving early in the morning, dumping waste and driving off. The place is strewn with disgusting rubbish.

These fly-tippers seem to think that because the original mess has not yet been cleared away that somehow gives them licence to join in.

Meanwhile the Welsh Government is going through the process to evict those living on the site and that a clean up operation will then start.

But surely the longer this goes on the more imperative a clear up operation gets under way now even if that means it starts before all the legal process has been gone through.

The longer this goes on the more unsightly the mess will get and the bigger the clean up will have to be.
