A MAN is alleged to have pulled out a knife in a Newport Tesco store when he was confronted by a staff member.

The man reportedly attempted to steal items from the store and when confronted by a member of staff, pulled out a black-handled knife.

He then ran away towards the Bath Store, then down an alley towards Hollybush Avenue. No-one was harmed during the incident.

The offender is black, in his late 30s or early 40s and around five feet six inches.

He spoke with a London accent and has a distinctive scar on his right cheek.

He was wearing a black jacket with a black hooded top underneath, blue jeans and black trainers.

He was seen talking briefly to another man in the store and the police are also keen to speak to this person. He is white, around 30-years-old and wearing a black tracksuit.

Officers would like to reassure the other man in the store that he is not in any trouble, but they think he may be able to help with their inquiries.
