TRIBUTES have been paid to a woman who died following a crash on Newport Bridge last week.

Pamela Lancaster, 47, of Newport, was involved in a collision with a car on Thursday, March 23.

Mrs Lancaster had been taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff but succumbed to her injuries.

Gwent Police specialist officers have been supporting the family who released a statement yesterday.

It read: “Following the tragic events last week, we are sad to announce that Pamela Lancaster (nee Bunce) has passed away.

“She will be sadly missed by all her family, now at peace.

“We would like to thank the emergency services and all the staff at Cardiff University Hospital critical care unit for all their help and kindness.”

Police and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance and Wales Air Ambulance services, were called to Clarence Place at 1.30pm.

The bridge was closed for around four-and-a-half hours before reopening at around 6pm.

Tricia Jordan, 31, who had recently completed a first aid course, was one of two bystanders who rushed to help Mrs Lancaster.

“I was coming across the bridge in the opposite direction and I saw it happen right in front of me,” she said last week.

“I left my car on the wrong side of the road in the bus lane so that I could try to help.

“I had only completed my first-aid training three weeks ago – I had hoped that I wouldn’t have to use it.”

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called shortly before 1.30pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Clarence Place in Newport.

“We sent a paramedic in a rapid response car, a crew in an emergency ambulance, a BASICS doctor and a Wales Air Ambulance to the scene.”

A Gwent Police spokeswoman told the Argus last week: “At 1.30pm today we received reports of a collision between a Silver Ford Focus and a female pedestrian at Clarence Place in Newport.”

Investigations into the incident are ongoing and police are still appealing for information.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call 101 quoting log 238 23/03/17.
