MONMOUTH MP David Davies has waged a public battle about many aspects of the Circuit of Wales plan for Ebbw Vale, especially surrounding the use of public money.

There have been many others who have questioned aspects of it.

Today the Auditor General for Wales publishes his findings following a review into the Welsh Government’s decision-making processes and risk management surrounding the handling of the proposal to date.

It might make uncomfortable reading for some although the report does not concur with some of the MP’s concerns about the use of public money.

Our view has always been to support the Circuit of Wales project and that has not changed.

The 64-page report describes some shortcomings in how the Welsh Government managed risks to tax-payers’ money after providing £9.3 million to support the initial development of the ambitious project and it makes several recommendations.

It is only right that the Assembly is diligent in its dealings with such a major project. That is what we all expect but it does not weaken our view that this project, if it does go ahead, will be good for Wales.
