PLANS to turn Abergavenny holiday cottages into a private homes will be discussed by county councillors next week.

The application relates to the Hazel and Oak Cottages at Wernddu Farm, Llantilio Pertholey, which have been used as tourist accommodation since 2007.

At the time, councillors granted plans to convert the previously redundant barns into holiday cottages as long as they remained holiday homes forever - as they failed to meet the then-council’s criteria for the conversion of buildings to residential use.

Subsequent applications to remove such conditions, and an appeal to the planning inspectorate, were knocked back in 2009.

But an application to increase the maximum length of let from 28 days to 4 months was approved in 2015 on the basis that there was demand for longer stays during the summer months.

Llantilio Pertholey Community Council are of the belief that the new application would “affect tourism in the locality”.

A county council report added that granting the application would be “inconsistent to vary conditions on buildings that were considered inappropriate for permanent residential accommodation”.

Planning councillors will meet on July 4 at 2pm.
