A VIGIL was held at the Cwmbran Boating Lake on Sunday to honour the victims of the terror attacks in London and Manchester, and those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.

Around 150 people attended the event, including members of the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service - representing the Torfaen crews from Cwmbran and New Inn.

More than £200 was raised at the candlelight vigil, with the money supporting the fund for the victims of the Grenfell Tower disaster.

The event was organised by three Torfaen councillors – David Daniels, Jo Gauden and Kelly Preston – and featured a performance from the choir Soul’d As Seen.

They performed ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, and invited those in attendance to join them.

Cllr Gauden said: “Before lighting candles to remember those who have lost their lives, Reverend Ryan Cleminson spoke of the symbolism of lighting candles - a message of unity: where there is light, no hate can hide, only love can exist.”
