THE organisers of Pill Carnival are appealing for help filling in a number of roles in the popular city celebration.

Over the years, thousands of people have flocked to the city’s annual musical showcase.

The parade has featured a marching band, a brass band and many other attractions.

This year, a funfair, stalls, live music and dance groups are all expected.

Volunteers are currently looking for children to fill certain roles for the upcoming event.

The organisers are particularly after looking for flower girls, aged five to eight, and court ladies, aged between nine and 13.

Teenagers aged 13 to 16 can also apply to be carnival queen.

Prizes are on offer.

To apply for any of the positions, entry forms are available at AB Florist on Commercial Road, Newport.

The carnival queen competition will be held at Newport Harriers from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday July 16, ahead of the carnival itself on August 28, Bank Holiday Monday.
