THE VICTIM of a stabbing has told a court he believes he was attacked by two people, each armed with a knife.

Kevin Skye, a member of the parachute regiment, had been out to a family party when he went to the Hafodyrynys Inn with his partner Ceri Jones at around 11.15pm on Boxing Day last year.

In a recorded police interview shown at the trial of Christopher and Simon Trigg this morning, Mr Skye said he has little recollection of the incident which left him with “life-threatening” injuries.

In the interview, he said he remembered holding somebody’s head in his left hand and a knife in his right hand.

“As I was holding the knife in one hand, somebody else was still stabbing me in the stomach,” he told the jury, appearing at Cardiff Crown Court via video link.

William Hughes, defending Simon Trigg, asked whether the second person could have been trying to pull away the first.

But Mr Skye said he felt being stabbed by the second person.

Christopher Trigg, 36, of Risca, has pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and accepts he stabbed Mr Skye.

He has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.

His brother Simon Trigg, 33, formerly of Caerphilly, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and not guilty to the alternative charge.

He says says he attempted to break up the attack after he found his brother grappling with Mr Skye.

Earlier today, the court heard from pub-goers who found Mr Skye injured in a street in Hafodyrynys lying in a “pool of blood.”

Simon Lewis, who called an ambulance after finding the injured victim, told the court: “When I got there he (Kevin Skye) was on the floor and his girlfriend was holding his head in her lap.

“He was drenched in blood, lying in a pool of blood.”

Matthew Chapman, who was involved in a fight with Simon Trigg at the Hafodyrynys Inn before the alleged stabbing, said he had shaken hands and made up with Mr Trigg.

“It was all forgotten about as far as I was concerned,” he told the court.

Mr Chapman received a cut to the head in the scuffle outside the toilets at the pub and Simon Trigg received a cut to the eye, but the fight was broken up.

He said the fight started after Simon Trigg made “derogatory remarks” about his partner’s sister.

Later, Mr Chapman became aware of the reported stabbing while he was in the pub.

“I was in the pub when people started running out,” he said.

When he arrived at the scene, Mr Skye was lying on the ground and others were providing first aid, Mr Chapman said.
