A COMMUNITY group from Cwmbran are looking to encourage female pupils to enter careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as part of a school scheme.
The Cwmbran and District branch of Soroptimist International aim to help women and girls by enabling, empowering and educating them.
In a drive to increase interest in STEM subjects, the group will donate the book ‘Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World’ to all primary schools in Torfaen.
The book features well-known figures such as physicist and chemist Marie Curie and Katherine Johnson, the African-American mathematician who calculated the trajectory of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
The books will be presented across September in conjunction with World Literacy Day, September 8.
