HERE is one of our winners of Gwent's prettiest pets competition with their painting.

In June, we launched the search for the prettiest pet in Gwent in a competition to win a pet portrait by artist Christopher Langley.

And the response to this first prettiest pet competition was fantastic - we were inundated with entries.

Two winners, one chosen by an online public vote and the other chosen by artist Christopher Langley, were selected to receive a pet portrait worth £170 created by Mr Langley.

Now, one of the winners, Bailey, an 11-year-old ragdoll, and their owners have been given the painting.

Owner Elle Wilks, who shares the ownership of Bailey with her grandmother Sylvia Briffett, said: "The painting is beautiful, I really like it.

"I enjoy the texture as well."

Ms Briffett said the picture they submitted for the competition was a few years old, but that it is still her favourite.

Bailey was Mr Langley's favourite picture.

He said: "It has been an absolute pleasure and joy to do this.

"Bailey is quite a big cat - it is good I did a big painting.

"I have enjoyed meeting Bailey, his looks match his personality."

The other winner of the competition was another cat, Celli, who won the public vote. The picture was sent by Emily Boshein from Cwmbran.

Mr Langley currently has an exhibition of his work at Horton's Coffee House, in Millenium Walk, Newport.
