PRIMARY school pupils from Cwmbran built up their knowledge of the construction trade as part of an educational aid to one of their topics.

Blenheim Road Community Primary School visited Taylor Wimpey’s Parc Celyn development in accordance with their ‘Our World – Houses and Homes’ topic.

Marie Galeozzi, the nurture leader at Blenheim Road Community Primary School, says: “The children absolutely loved their visit and it was great getting them to engage with, and learn more from, their surroundings.

“A walk around the building site allowed them to see the different styles and types of houses, raised awareness of the different materials that are used, and helped them understand the variety of jobs that people do, all in one place.”

The group, aged seven to nine, visited the development’s show homes and – after donning hard hats and high vis vests – the construction area, where they watched workers busy on roofs, foundations and scaffolding.

They also saw the different housetypes, watched a boom lift in action and even had a bricklaying lesson.

Sara Taylor, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales, said: “It was lovely to welcome such enthusiastic and well behaved children to our Parc Celyn development.

“We’re so pleased to hear that they enjoyed their visit and found it useful, and we hope that one day some of them might even end up helping us to build our new homes.”

The children’s post visit school activities will include studying how bricks are made and investigating the different types of houses in their local community, and comparing them with homes in Uganda, where the Cwmbran school’s partner school is based.
