THE latest addition to the Gwent food scene has opened its doors to the public.

Sixteen Restaurant in Newport offers a menu designed around chicken and steak to share, alongside seasonal starters and puddings.

Located at 16 High Street in Newport, the restaurant prides itself on the quality of its produced which includes meat from Welsh beef producers Celtic Pride.

Speaking at the launch co-owner Lewis Lewis, who also owns Mojo The FoodBar and the Riverside Sports Bar and Kitchen, said: “It’s a nice addition to the food scene in Newport and the nice hospitality we offer at Mojo and the Riverside.

“It is a really great venue with lots of innovative things.

“Our chef Sam has come up with classics and added a few twists to them.”

Chef Sam Lewis is originally from Cwmbran, but has worked in London and most recently at Bovey Castle’s Great Western Restaurant in Devon.

He said: “I’m excited to get my food out there.

“On our doorstep in Wales we have great produce and great suppliers and it’s great to use them.

“It’s nice to come home and when the role came up I thought it was time for a new adventure.”

The venue also features a lobby bar area and upstairs terrace as well as the main restaurant.

It also markets itself as a coffee and tea destination, with a range of home-made cakes on offer.

Mr Lewis added: “It’s a place you can come with fiends and be social and chill out.

“You could just be coming in for a few cocktails.

“It’s just somewhere comfy and somewhere people can come to relax.”
