STAFF at a Newport call centre will give their time up for free to support an annual telethon event.

Telephone lines during Children in Need will be manned by staff at Lloyds Banking Group contact centres across the UK, including 100 at the Tredegar Park centre in Newport.

They will be volunteering for the third year in a row to man the phones and process millions of pounds donated by the public.

Staff will provide more than 300 volunteer hours of support on the night, with 150 telephone lines in operation in Newport alone.

In the lead up to appeal night, the Newport volunteers also raised money by organising bake sales, holding a dress-down day and visiting the local hospital and schools with Pudsey.

Lloyds Banking Group ambassador for Wales Allan Griffiths said “I am very proud of the outstanding support our colleagues have given BBC Children in Need’s Appeal Night for many years now, and that our colleagues in Newport are once again volunteering their time to help take donations on appeal night.

“The evening is always a fantastic example of how our colleagues go above and beyond to make a real difference to the great causes the group supports.”

Christopher Burke, senior team manager at Tredegar Park said: “We are looking forward to having colleagues from the group come into Tredegar Park call centre to take donations from those in Newport.

“Having their support on the night makes a real difference to the amount of donations we can process quickly.”
