THOUSANDS of people turned out to see Newport's Christmas lights switched on by former Wales manager Chris Coleman, as festivities were launched in the city.
Rain did not dampen the festive spirit as music fans packed into the city centre to see runners-up of TV show The Voice, Into The Ark, headline the Countdown to Christmas event, before ex-manager Coleman made a final farewell speech and lit up the city's lights at the event on Saturday.
