UPDATE: 9.13am One person has been taken to hospital following the crash on the entry slip road to the M4 eastbound, from the A48M, which occurred at around 7.15am.

Traffic is beginning to ease, but remains slow eastbound on the A48M back to the St Mellons junction.

There also remain several miles of slow traffic on the M4 westbound, following a crash involving a van and a car between junctions 26 (Malpas) and 27 (High Cross), which happened at around 7.40am.

The congestion is also affecting the A4042 bypass southbound into Newport.

There is also slow traffic on the M4 westbound between junctions 26 (Malpas) and 27 (High Cross), followign an earlier accident.

Congestion is back to junction 24 (Coldra). All lanes have been re-opened.

MAJOR delays are being reported on the A48(M) eastbound into Newport, following an accident earlier this morning that has closed a lane of the entry slip road to the M4.

Traffic is currently very slow on the A48M as far back as the junction with the A4232 in Cardiff, a distance of five miles.

One motorist has told the Argus that they have been stuck for an hour on the A48 due to the tailback.
