Newport Aspergers man takes care of business

A NEWPORT-born businessman has overcome his condition to set up his own coach business.

Peter Young, 27, who suffers from Asperger Syndrome will start UK Express Coaches on February 2 after he wanted more direct coach services available from Newport.

Mr Young first came up with the idea after talking with agents and finding there was no link between Newport and Birmingham International Airport and that the links between the city and other destinations involved a number of changes.

The firm, which will be based in Edinburgh, will sub-contract coaches and drivers.

The business was funded by Mr Young along with private finance and grant aid.

Routes will take place between Newport and Chepstow, Lydney, Birmingham International Airport, Manchester Airport, Manchester City Centre, Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders.

A launch of the company will take place at Bettws Post office at 10.30am on Wednesday.

This sounds really good, hopefully Peter ends up like Stagecoach/Megabus in a few years with services right across Wales. Wales seems one major place that the coach service seems to have forgotten. I still remember the old Coastliner, that was a good service running all the way from Caer to Caerdydd (Chester to Cardiff), hourly, maybe that service could be re-introduced. Last time I checked it had been broken up that much into smaller routes like the 1 (Chester to Rhyl), and the 2 (Rhyl to Llandudno Junction) and so on... it was just too confusing to try and get from one end of Wales to the other.
