STAFF at a Newport record shop are bringing their favourite album covers to life for charity this Christmas.
Diverse Records have produced a charity calendar made up of mock-up iconic record sleeves, with funds raised to go to music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
For more spoof album covers, go to the gallery below
The calendar features Matt Jarrett, Paul Hawkins, Mark Southall and Peter Fowler posing as Queen, the BeeGees, and the Beatles in some of their most well known covers.
It’s not the first time the team have followed in their heroes footsteps for the festive period.
“In the last two years we’ve done Christmas cards with us doing album covers – Blondie’s Parallel Lines and Kraftwerk’s Trans Europa Express,” said Mr Jarrett.
“We thought it would be a laugh to do 12 of them.”
Working with freelance photographer David Kobylanski, even the cover of the calendar is a pastiche of DJ Shadow’s Endtroducing..., with members of local bands Goldie Lookin' Chain and Skindred thumbing through Diverse’s library.
Paul Hawkins said they picked Nordoff Robbins for its musical roots.
“It’s a charity that supports music and does a great deal of music therapy,” said Mr Hawkins “The album covers we chose were iconic covers - we picked not just ones with four people on the cover so we could do them but also ones people would know,” he added.
Having to stand in for John Travolta, Brian May and even John Lennon meant donning a variety of disguises for one of the group.
“I seemed to be the one that always had to dress up,” said Mr Jarrett, who is seen with a large wig in their Queen Two parody.
But despite Diverse’s ambition, it was simply not possible to do every cover the group wanted to.
Mr Jarrett added: “I wanted to do Lynyrd Skynard’s Street Survivors but we couldn’t.
“There’s lots of people on fire in that one.”
The calendar’s are available from Diverse Records, Charles Street, Newport, for £10, or at their website http://www.diversevinyl.com
