NEWPORT will welcome back the stars of the YouTube phenomenon Newport (Ymerodraeth State of Mind) on Saturday when they perform at Newport Cityfest.
Alex Warren, 24, and Terema Wainwright, 25, who play Jay Z and Alicia Keys in the spoof version of the number one hit New York Empire State of Mind, will sing on the main stage in John Frost Square at 7pm.
This comes just a week after the duo performed at the re-opening of the Transporter Bridge where they were mobbed by fans as they signed autographs and posed for photos.
The video has now had more than two million views on the video sharing website YouTube, gained publicity in the national media and attracted celebrity fans such as Stephen Fry, Rob Brydon, Lilly Allen and the rapper Example.
Cityfest is a free two-day event on Saturday and Sunday organised by Urban Circle and will also feature a performance by Eurovision star Jon Lilygreen.
Mr Lilygreen, from Bettws, recently represented Cyprus in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest and regularly performs acoustic sets at pubs and clubs in Newport.
He will share the Newport City Radio stage on Saturday with other singers and songwriters including Tobias Robertson, award winning soprano Holly Holyoake and ska reggae band Clinical Groover.
The festival will start on Friday night at 6pm with Rock Out - a free alternative rock event featuring the likes of Mike Fantastic, This Isn’t Hollywood, Gun Smoke City, Drafts and Hit or Miss.
