SPORTS, television and music stars will tee-off on a Newport golf course as part of a charity tournament organised by city rap group Goldie Lookin Chain.
Launching the event at Caerleon Golf Club yesterday, GLC members Rhys Hutchings, also known as Xain, and John Rutledge, whose band name is Eggsy, said the event will enable local residents without Ryder Cup tickets to see some golf.
Olympic sprinters Jamie Baulch and Matt Elias, indie band Super Furry Animals, rock musicians The Automatic, Torchwood star Gareth David Lloyd, Paralympic gold medallist swimmer Liz Johnson and stars of television show Dirty Sanchez are among the celebrities taking part in the tournament on September 25.
An evening concert will follow the golf challenge, with performances from GLC, Newport band Dirty Goods and Newport Allstars, but a venue for the gig has not yet been chosen.
Xain said: “The Ryder Cup isn’t going to be accessible to everyone so at least with this going on, people will have a chance to get involved.”
Entry to the tournament at Caerleon Golf Club will be free but visitors will be asked to donate to the Newport mayor’s charity, Tenovus.
The event begins at 9am and celebrity pairs will tee-off every 15 minutes until 12.30pm to compete for the winner’s title.
