OLYMPIC swimmer Chris Cook visited a Newport school to give a motivational talk to pupils.

The double Commonwealth champion, who has represented Great Britain twice in the Olympics, was at Hartridge High School as part of the 21st Century Legacy ‘Be the best you can be’ programme.

The programme, founded by Olympic champion David Hemery, was born out of London winning the right to host the 2012 Olympics and is designed to inspire and change the lives of young people.

Mr Cook gave a talk to year seven and year eight pupils at the school about his personal journey before motivating them to work towards achieving their dreams.

Pupils were given workbooks and tasks to work on throughout the year. Mr Cook or one of his fellow Olympians will then visit the pupils later in the year to see how they are progressing.

Deputy head teacher at the school Rob King said: “It was a very, very successful visit. We have had fantastic feedback from the pupils and staff.”
