A NEWPORT campaigner looks set to take the helm of the Wales Green Party.
Pippa Bartolotti, 58, who was detained in Israel earlier this year as she tried to visit the occupied West Bank, says she is the only person nominated to become the leader ahead of a ballot taking place next week.
Current leader Jake Griffiths, who is stepping down, nominated Ms Bartolloti at the party's conference last Saturday.
The Malpas woman, who is also a spokeswoman for the Stop Newport Incinerator Campaign against the proposal for a waste burner in Llanwern, said: "I feel quite honoured. People put so much faith in me, it's quite humbling."
She said as leader she will want to help people understand more about the Green Party in Wales - something she said many in Wales know little about.
Ballot papers are being sent out to the party's 600 members next week, she said. A formal annoucement is likely to be made before Christmas.
