A NEWPORT teenager will be sentenced next month after admitting breaching an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) within the first month of it being issued.

Raakib Ali, 14, of James Street, was made the subject of the two-year anti-social behaviour order on January 24 at Cwmbran Youth Court which included a threemonth curfew requiring him to be at his home between 8pm and 7am.

But Cwmbran Youth Court heard yesterday howAli was seen on February 18 outside the Co-op store in Chepstow Road at 9.30pm.

He was arrested and interviewed where he made a full admission to the breach. He pleaded guilty on March 6.

The Argus previously reported how Ali was made subject to the order after causing trouble in the community over a four-year period.

This included smashing a bus window with stones, setting off a store fire alarm and being abusive towards members of the public and police.

The order bans Ali from engaging in conduct likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress or likely to be threatening, abusive or insulting to any person in England or Wales.

It also prevents him from damaging or threatening to damage other people’s property, entering any building without permission of the owner or removing items from a building without permission.

Ali is also banned from associating with a group of four other boys and entering Jubilee Park, Eton Road Community House or Maindee Library unless accompanied by a parent.

Representing Ali, Andrea Nash-Harding said: “There is no suggestion that he was committing any further breaches of the ASBO. He simply entered a shop close to where he resides. He was not causing any problems.”

Chairman of the bench, Peter Wood released Ali on bail until a sentencing on April 3.

Magistrates agreed that reporting restrictions could remain lifted so we could report on the breach.
