AN ANTI-BULLYING charity is piloting a young ambassadors’ programme in Newport and is calling on volunteers to join them.

Charity Bullies Out received £1,842.93 from the Gwent High Sheriff’s Community Fund and Gwent Police Property Fund which will be used to launch the programme.

The Gwent High Sheriff’s Community Fund is made up of money raised by the High Sheriff organising charitable events, while the Gwent Police Property Fund is raised by the sale of property and cash seized from criminals and the disposal of unclaimed lost property.

The Bullies Out young ambassadors’ programme will allow young people to help the charity raise its profile in the area and to speak out in the fight against bullying.

The charity is looking for 15 local volunteers aged between 11 and 25 who can help out in a number of ways, including talking about bullying and the effects it can have, organising fundraising events and handing out promotional material.

Youth development officer Natalie Elward said: “It is all about giving young people a voice.

“We are bringing it to a real grassroots level and want to get young people talking about bullying.

It is also about developing the young people as well as helping them to build their confidence.”

Volunteers need to be enthusiastic and positive role models who are able to commit to the programme for at least one year.

An induction will be provided and around four meetings will be held during the year.
