AN ABERGAVENNY coach driver will go on trial accused of causing amotorway pile up in which a 30-year-old Birmingham man died.

Daniel Parr, 24, of Penallt Estate, Llanelly Hill, appeared at Gloucester crown court yesterday accused of causing the death of engineer Raymond Vaughan, a father-of-two from Birmingham, by dangerous driving.

It is alleged Mr Parr was driving a Cardiff to Leeds Megabus dangerously on the M5 northbound near Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, when the fatal collision happened on December 12, 2010.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC told Mr Parr that his trial will be held on June 25 but he will have to re-appear on May 25 to formally enter his plea to the charge.

The Megabus coach and four other vehicles were involved in the accident, leaving a scene of devastation when a northbound lorry went through the central barrier and collided with Mr Vaughan’s car, which was travelling south.

The pile up happened in heavy fog. Three of the coach passengers were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with minor injuries.

Judge Tabor bailed Mr Parr after telling him his trial will probably last about four days.
