SOME workers at Burton’s Biscuits in Cwmbran are striking today, in a row over pay.

Members of the Unite union will strike for a 32-hour period from today – one of four days of action called after the union rejected a pay rise offer.

The union says a one per cent offer for 2011 and two per cent offer for 2012 was unacceptable and that the company has adopted a “take it or leave it” approach.

Burton’s Biscuits said Unite’s figures did not reflect the proposed offer, which it said was 1.5 per cent for 2011 and an additional one per cent performance-related bonus for 2012.

A spokeswoman said the firm was disappointed a compromise could not be reached with the 49 members, which was only six per cent of its employees. Disruption would be kept to a minimum.
