THE Argus is calling on budding photographers to help Newport’s university mark 100 years of photography in the city with a special competition.

The University of Wales, Newport, is producing a 2013 charity calendar featuring iconic images of Newport to mark the milestone and Argus readers are being invited to make a date for themselves by having their photograph printed in the calendar.

To be in with a chance of being a part of the calendar, which will raise funds for the Argus-backed Sparkle Appeal, all you have to do is take a photograph which you feel depicts Newport and send it in.

Apanel of expert judges will choose the best eight pictures to feature in the calendar.

An overall winning image will also be used as the cover picture for the calendar.

The remaining four months of the calendar will feature montage images of the Transporter Bridge, the Wave, Tredegar House and the university’s city centre campus.

The montages will be created from faces of Newport children.

Schools are being sent ‘Snap a face’ packs and are encouraged to send in as many pictures of their pupils as possible.

Schools which sell the calendar can also benefit from ten per cent of the sale price.
