PONTYPOOL'S new Carnival Queen has been chosen.
Jodie Roberts, 17, was picked as the winner by judges from Pontypool community council, Torfaen council and the deputy mayor of Torfaen, Neil Mason, councillor for St Cadocs and Penygarn.
Miss Roberts, of Capel Street, Pontypool, who is studying childcare education Level 3, was a flower girl for the carnival when she was a little girl, but is now looking forward to taking her place at the head of the parade.
The former West Mon pupil entered at the suggestion of her mum and boyfriend.
She said: "I was quite shocked to be picked. I can't wait to see what it's going to be like, it's going to be really good."
This year's attendant is Tiffany Walker, 11, from Penygarn; the flowergirl is ten-year-old Katie Walker from Penygarn, Trevethin's Harrison Reed, five, is the pageboy and Ellie Bevan, five, from Lower Cwm is the rosebud.
Miss Roberts will lead the carnival procession through Pontypool on July 14.
