Newport could get Wales' first virtual golf centre

AN INDUSTRIAL unit in Newport could be turned into a virtual golf centre if Newport planners allow a change of use to go ahead.

Rob Long, of Newport, and Tom Fitzgerald of Cwmbran want to turn a unit at Leeway Industrial Estate, Newport, into a virtual golf centre called Golf Sensation.

If it opens it is believed the site may be the first centre of its type in Wales.

Mr Long said the centre would feature six booths, three meters wide by four meters long which players play inside.

The game is projected in front of the player, who hits a normal ball like they would on a ordinary golf course.

A player can either play a normal round of golf or train themselves up to improve their game.

He said the firm is hoping to open the site in three or four months, and that there was a big following among business professionals.

"You don't have to walk around and get tired or sweaty. There's a massive calling for it, the interest we've had is extensive," he said.

Newport planning officials are set to make a decision in the coming weeks.
