RECORD WALK: Pupils from the Millbrook primary school Bettws in Newport attempt to break the world record for a walking bus
NEWPORT school children were part of a record-breaking attempt for the longest walking bus.
On Wednesday all 186 children from Millbrook Primary school in the city, donned their high visibility jackets and took to the streets as part of a nation-wide event in partnership with the road safety charity Brake.
The children and staff were led up and round the local shopping area by a lollipop lady, while holding a banner which read "slow down in our community."
The event aimed to encourage drivers to slow down, particularly in residential areas, but was also an opportunity for the school to promote children and parents walking to school rather than taking the bus or travelling by car.
Once all the children who took part in Schools across the UK are added up, it is hoped they will have broken a Guinness world record.
