A 63-YEAR-OLD Newport man was taken to hospital on Monday after injuring his leg while working at Alexandra Dock.

The Health and Safety Executive is now involved.

The man, a cargo handler/ warehouseman for Associated British Ports at Alexandra Dock, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital after the accident at around 10.30am.

A spokeswoman for ABP confirmed an accident had resulted in an injury to one of its employees who is being treated at hospital.

Police were called and an ambulance took the man to hospital with what it described as “serious injuries”.

Police said the case has been handed over to the Health and Safety Executive. A spokeswoman for the Health and Safety Executive said staff visited the site and are looking into the incident.
