SEVEN vehicles were seized by Gwent Police for having no insurance during two operations in Blaenau Gwent last month.

Using live automatic number plate recognition technology, officers from the force’s roads policing unit stopped and checked 80 vehicle registration numbers against a number of databases and any vehicle of interest.

Officers also found eight drivers had no documents, three vehicles had not had an MOT and three were not taxed.

Six fixed penalty notices were issued for using a mobile phone while driving or not wearing a seatbelt and two were in a dangerous condition, while one driver failed to stop for officers.

Together with the neighbourhood policing team, officers carried out high-visibility mobile patrols throughout Abertillery, Ebbw Vale, Tredegar and Brynmawr.

Chief Inspector for Blaenau Gwent, Marc Budden, warned those committing offences risk having their vehicle seized as well as facing criminal charges.
