THE pupils of Dewstow Primary School, Caldicot, buried a time capsule on their new school site.
The new school is being built on the site of the former Green Lane School, with pupils from Green Lane being based at Caldicot’s West End Infants School, while work is being carried out.
180 pupils attended the burial of the time capsule on July 17, which included items such as school uniform, a year book, a school lunch menu, a CD of the new school song, pictures of the pupils and copies of The South Wales Argus and the Free Press that day.
Headteacher, Gill Bray, said: "We were blessed as the weather was lovely. It was a wonderful day for both the staff and pupils.
"I’m looking forward to being in the new school building, I’m so lucky to get to be headteacher at the new site."
Before the burying of the time capsule took place the pupils lined the road and passed a lantern from pupil to pupil leading to the new school site.
The Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council , Cllr Maureen Powell, attended on the day.
This new school - a replacement for Green Lane Junior School and Caldicot’s West Infants - is opening on September 1 and is the first Monmouthshire primary school promoting a fully flexible learning environment, which meets the vision for MCC to raise standards of achievement and 21st Century learning.
