South Wales Fire Service say the fire at the house was an arson attack.
No one was in the house at the time of the blaze, and the alarm was raised by a passer-by.

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house fire on Jones Street in Baneswell, Newport, at 6.41am today.
The fire was in a bedroom on the first floor.
The fire service sent crews from Malpas and Maindee fire stations and all people were accounted for when they arrived at the scene.
