THE cyclist injured after the crash on the SDR this morning has died.

The 40-year-old Newport man was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The collision happened around 7:50am at the junction of Usk Way and involved a black Volkswagen car and the victim.

The 61-year-old driver of the car had minor injuries and was also taken to hospital. He was later discharged from hospital and was arrested on suspicion of death by careless driving. He remains in custody.

Both carriageways of the SDR have now reopened.

THE crash on the SDR this morning involved a car and a cyclist Gwent Police say. The cyclist and the driver of the car have been injured but the nature of their injuries is not yet known. The collision happened at around 7.50am.

Any witnesses are asked to call Gwent Police on 101.

A SERIOUS accident on the SDR bridge has closed that road both ways this morning.

Emergency services are attending to a collision between Cardiff Road and Corporation Road.

Traffic is reported to be heavy in the area and a diversion is in place. Drivers are advised to use the M4 to J24 or B4237 through Newport.
