TORFAEN council has announced plans to carry out a number of road repair works costing £500,000.

The work will include resurfacing projects that involve road closures and surface redressing that will be carried out between now and October.

The surfacing dressing starts in Cwmavon on August 11 and will be carried out between Blaenavon and Abersychan from 9.30pm until 3.30pm - work may continue into the evenings.

Similar work will also take place on A472 Crumlin Road on the week commencing August 12 between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Lane closures will be in effect on the A472 dual carriageway from August 18 through to 6am on August 20.

The road surfacing work that involve road closures take place as follows: Leigh Road, Trevethin from its junction with Church Avenue to its junction with Hospital Road. This will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm on August 20 and August 21.

Work will also be carried out on Commercial Street, Hanbury Road and Clarence Street, with a road closure in place from the junction at Park Road to Clarence Street roundabout. This will take place between 8pm and 12am on August 21 and August 22.

Richmond Road, Russell Street and New Street in Pontnewydd. This will take place between 8am and 5pm on August 26 and on September 2 and a road closure will be in effect on both days.

Avondale Road in Panteg between 8am and 8pm on October 7 and on October 14.

A Torfaen spokesman said: "These are essential works that are funded by Torfaen council with support from the Welsh Government’s borrowing initiative.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused and drivers are warned that they could face delays while these essential works are carried out."
