THREE people were arrested following the search of a Newport house involving armed police officers this evening.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. A 40-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl were arrested on suspicion of assault.

This followed investigations made after three people were arrested following an incident outside the Post Office on Cardiff Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Offiers were called to a house in Glasllwch Crescent tonight and police said a search of an address in Allt Yr Yn was being carried out in connection with those inquiries.

Two armed officers were stood outside the front of the house while several others conducted a search of the premises.

Several police cars were parked down Brickyard Lane in order to gain access to the rear of the house.

Neighbour Paul Hiscock, 52, said: "There were two armed police on the front door, one or two in the back garden and three or four police cars be we don't know what's been going on."
