A MAN in a motorised wheelchair was robbed at knifepoint in Newport.
The victim, a 57-year-old man, was travelling from the Millennium footbridge along the riverside path towards Lysaght Village between 9.45pm and 10pm on Wednesday when he was approached by two men riding silver bicycles close to the Southern Distributor Road bridge.
The men threatened him with a knife, pushed him, and took a quantity of cash from him. They made off on their bikes towards Corporation Road.
The victim received bruising to his stomach and a small cut to his neck. He was kept in the Royal Gwent Hospital overnight.
The first offender is described as Asian, in his twenties, approximately 5ft 8ins and of average build. He was wearing a baggy grey hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.
The second offender is also described as Asian, in his twenties, approximately 5ft 8ins, of average build, with a round face, stubble and dark eyes. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top with a Nike logo, grey tracksuit bottoms with white stripes and white trainers.
Detective Superintendent Ian Roberts said: "This is a despicable and cowardly crime. A victim has been targeted and left terrified by two offenders who have little or no regard for the most vulnerable people in our society."
