THE parents of a young mum who went missing with her newborn baby boy made a heartfelt plea for her to come home.

Sammy Edwards, 19, from Cwmbran, gave birth at 1.30pm last Wednesday and was seen leaving the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, on Thursday at around 4.50pm.

Her father, Peter Edwards, wants her to go home for her birthday on Saturday and revealed his eldest daughter Emma has also disappeared with them.

He said: “This is a very worrying time. All we want to do is bring Sammy and her baby home.

“It’s Sammy’s 20th birthday on Saturday, we want her back here with our first grandchild.

“We’d do anything to get her back.

“I’ve been phoning relatives but no one has seen her. She could potentially be anywhere.

“My eldest daughter Emma, 23, has gone off with Sammy.

She left a note to my ex-wife Ceri to say she was going to catch Sammy up.

“Sammy obviously got in contact with Emma and told her where she was, but we haven’t heard from either of them since.

“I feel like I’m two daughters down now.”

Miss Edwards’ mother, Ceri Pinch, said: “I don’t know which way to turn.

“Sammy must be scared to death and doesn’t know who she can trust.

“I was at the hospital when she gave birth and when the doctor did checks on the baby.

“I have everything ready for her and the baby. I want them back home.”

Officers have been carrying out inquiries as it is believed Miss Edwards is still in Cwmbran and that she and her baby are staying with someone she knows.

Police are concerned for Miss Edwards since she discharged herself without her or the baby having final health checks and would like her to contact them to let them know she is safe and well.

However, they said there is nothing to suggest she or the baby are at higher risk than any other new mum and young baby.

Miss Edwards is described as five feet four inches tall, of slim build and with black hair.

She was last seen wearing a black tracksuit and a pink hoodie.
