Call for action to boost crime commissioner election turnout
1:10pm Thursday 27th September 2012 in Gwent news
A GWENT candidate for the November police and crime commissioner elections has joined others in calling for the home secretary to tackle the low turnout predicted for November.
Ian Johnston, a former senior policeman, has signed a letter together with other candidates calling for action to ensure voters know the election is happening and who the candidates are.
It said broadcasts should be part of the government’s package for raising awareness, and calls on the government to pledge to never hold a major election in the winter again.
The letter comes after 5,000 people contacted Theresa May in August demand that she take action to avoid the PCC elections resulting in the lowest turn out in British election history.
